    NLG Chicago Police Accountability Project

    Individually and collectively, NLG Chicago member-attorneys use litigation as a tool in the continuing struggle to ensure that the law is used for the people's protection, not their repression. Outside the courthouse . . .

    There is a new, growing movement for police accountability in Chicago. NLG Chicago supports this movement. The people of Chicago have brought law suits and have marched in the streets, expressing growing concerns about:

    * Excessive force, including deadly force, incidents -
    * Racial profiling -
    * Tasers and other so-called non-lethal-force weapons -
    * Police and correctional officer misconduct on the basis of anti-LGBT-bias
    * Special concerns of people with mental illness

    There is a new, growing movement for police accountability in Chicago - The Justice Coalition of Greater Chicago proposes a "12-Point Program for Enhanced Police Accountability" The coalition will pressure the Chicago City Council to pass a new ordinance that will cut through the red tape citizens face when making complaints, and eliminate the bias in favor of the accused officer.

    There is a new, growing movement for police accountability in Chicago - Police brutality activist May Molina died in May 2005 in Chicago police custody. Hundreds protested.

    There is a new, growing movement for police accountability in Chicago - When Chicago police trapped and arrested hundreds of anti-war protesters at the start of the Gulf War in March, 2003, NLG attorneys brought a class-action lawsuit, Vodak v. City of Chicago.
